This photo is of my daughter, my son and I holding a photograph of my father, who we cared for at the end of his life. My father suffered from Alzheimer’s and passed away last summer. For my wife Dipti and I, there were positive and challenging aspects of being caregivers for him. It can be stressful to see someone you love, someone who raised you, being completely helpless and slowly dying, when there is nothing you can do about it. On the other hand, caring for him was a gift – we were glad to be able to provide loving care to him, right until the end. Although it was difficult and stressful at times to see my father’s decline, if we had to go back and do it all over again in his final days, Dipti and I would, without any hesitation.
