Caregiver Coach

What’s both one of life’s greatest gifts and a big stressor? Family caregiving.

While caregiving can be tremendously rewarding, caregivers can also find themselves feeling stressed, isolated and overwhelmed. If you are a family caregiver, you don’t need to navigate your journey alone. You can get valuable help and support from a caregiver coach. Our Elizz coaches have real life experiences as caregivers and are professionally trained coaches, with 10 years or more of experience in health care and/or social work.

You want to learn about resources and services that can help you
You need help figuring out how to juggle caregiving with the rest of your life and responsibilities such as work and parenting.
You want to know how to have difficult conversations with brothers, sisters, parents, others
You want to understand how a system works (healthcare, home care, long-term care) and how you can best navigate your way through it
You need help to prioritize what actions/next steps to take
You want to check whether you are doing “all you can” as a caregiver

Many Canadian families share caregiving responsibilities. They share chores, tasks, finances, all to help the person they are caring for live a healthy, safe, and independent life as possible. They also help make decisions and plan for the future. Family members bring their history, family dynamics, different thoughts and opinions, and a lot of emotion to all of these aspects of caregiving. This can lead to tensions and disagreements and resentments that are hard to resolve. An Elizz Coach can help. This session will be a facilitated space to establish common information and knowledge and understand options for care. The family is encouraged to come together as a team to provide the best possible care for their family member.

There are many difficult and emotional decisions to be made at the end of life. And the language health care professionals use can sometimes be confusing. An Elizz Coach can walk you through the language and support you to make decisions about end of life. This could be an Advance Care Plan, for example, where you set out your wishes for your care, or how to choose a Power of Attorney, or perhaps it’s how to talk about end of life with family and friends. It may also include talking about will and cremation options. Whatever the focus, your Elizz Coach will be at your side to assist as you bravely plan for end of life.
